As Game 2 of this year’s NBA Finals is in the books, we’ll take a look at another previous Game 2 that featured one of the most iconic shots. It was 1991 and the Chicago Bulls were playing the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Bulls lost Game 1 when Michael Jordan surprisingly missed a game-winning jumper. In Game 2, Jordan looked to put the Bulls on his back and get Chicago the victory.

Jordan famously made a switch-hands layup in the game. Most people know this, but what they don’t know is why MJ decided to pull out the move. Also, his iconic shot was a part of something extremely impressive that often gets lost in history.

Michael Jordan pulled off one of the craziest moves ever seen in an NBA Finals game. Still, some wonder why he even made the move.
Was Jordan showboating toward the Lakers? Some believe he was, but MJ once told the truth about why he switched hands.
“Cliff threw it back to me and I saw a clear lane to the basket, so I was going to dunk the ball. I exposed the ball. But then I saw long-arms Sam Perkins there and it was just instinct to change it. And I changed it to my left hand and was able to get it off.”
Jordan wanted to avoid Perkins, which led to this incredible shot. What was even more impressive was the fact that Jordan’s layup was his 13th straight made field goal.
MJ finished the game with 33 points on 15-18 shooting. He also added seven rebounds and 13 assists.
The Bulls would go on to win their first NBA championship and Jordan won the first of six Finals MVPs.
