The
Detroit Pistons have been shocking the NBA world with their great play as of late. Currently, Detroit sits in the fifth seed in the East. Out West, the
Minnesota Timberwolves have not lived up to expectations, as they are fighting to stay out of the play-in, currently holding the seventh spot.
On Sunday, the two teams met, but it wasn’t the on-court action that had everyone talking—it was the Pistons-Timberwolves brawl, which led to the ejection of five players and two coaches, that dominated the headlines.
For the Pistons, they saw players
Isaiah Stewart, Ron Holland II, and Marcus Sasser get tossed. Detroit also lost head coach J.B. Bickerstaff to ejection. For the Timberwolves,
Naz Reid and Dante DiVincenzo got the boot, and assistant coach Pablo Prigioni was shown the door.
“Obviously things went too far,”
Bickerstaff said. “But what you see is guys looking out for one another, guys trying to protect one another, guys trying to have each other’s backs. … Those are non-negotiables in our locker room.”
The Timberwolves secured the
123-104 victory, thanks to 25 points from
Anthony Edwards and 26 from
Julius Randle. Still, all anyone could talk about after the game was the Pistons-Timberwolves brawl. Fans now await the number of player suspensions, which could make or break both teams’ seasons as the playoffs near.
