The Pittsburgh Pirates received disappointing news on Tuesday when rookie shortstop Konnor Griffin was diagnosed with a torn tendon in his left ring finger.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Griffin could theoretically play through the injury, but an extended rehab is more likely and he is expected to miss at least a month.

The update is devastating for Griffin, who just returned to the lineup late last month after missing roughly four weeks with a right forearm injury.
The new injury reportedly occurred as he made a terrific diving catch during Sunday’s matchup against the Washington Nationals.
In addition to impressive fielding, he’s shown flashes of greatness at the plate as well. So far this season, the 20-year-old has racked up 62 hits, 25 RBIs and five home runs with a .276 batting average.
Pittsburgh’s injury woes are already bad, but it’s a smart decision to let Griffin recovery from this injury and hopefully return around mid-to-late August and make a postseason push.
