Oklahoma AG urges Big 12 to suspend Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby

The world of college football has recently been fixated on the ongoing issue involving Texas Tech transfer quarterback Brendan Sorsby and his eligibility for the 2026 season.

He was initially ruled ineligible to play by the NCAA after admitting to placing nearly 9,000 sports bets throughout his career. These bets totaled roughly $90,000 and some of them were placed on Sorsby’s own team while on the Indiana Hoosiers.

But a Texas judge recently granted him a temporary injunction to play next season, causing the college football world to erupt.

On Friday, Oklahoma attorney general Gentner Drummond wrote a letter to the Big 12, urging the conference to proceed with plans to suspend Brendan Sorsby.

“[Texas Tech] has shirked responsibility by running with a bogus claim to a friendly court,” Drummond wrote. “Its leadership has prioritized winning over sport, over honor and over integrity. If Texas Tech will not do the right thing, the Big 12 should. Texas Tech should be sanctioned.”

He went on to write that Sorsby’s injunction only applies to the NCAA and doesn’t stop the Big 12 from sanctioning Texas Tech and suspending the QB.

As of publication, the NCAA plans to appeal the recent ruling, although the trial for the case isn’t until February.

On Thursday night, members of Texas Tech’s leadership released a 21-minute video on social media, defending their decision to push for Sorsby’s eligibility. It has since garnered millions of views on various platforms.
