The NBA All-Star Game has been the topic of discussion in the NBA world for years. Most seem to agree that the event is not what it used to be as it simply isn’t as competitive. According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the league is discussing the idea of changing the format to a tournament.
“The NBA is in serious discussions on a new tournament-style format for the 2025 All-Star Game, consisting of three All-Star teams of eight players each and the winner of the Rising Stars game,” Charania said.

Charania also noted that “After the East defeated the West, 211-186, in the highest-scoring All-Star Game in league history this past February, NBA commissioner Adam Silver publicly and privately admitted the competition level had slipped drastically and there may not be a fix.”
Whether or not the tournament format materializes, it’s a good sign that the league is actively looking to improve the All-Star Game.
