The Cleveland Browns’ mandatory minicamp officially ends on Thursday and head coach Todd Monken told reporters on Tuesday that a decision on who will be the starting quarterback will not be made by then.

“Once we get to the fall, we’ll have to dissect the reps how we see fit,” he said. “I just don’t see it after the way Shedeur has played and Deshaun’s played. They’ve both played well enough to earn the right to compete to start.”
Throughout all of Cleveland’s offseason workouts so far, Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson have been splitting first-team practice reps.
As minicamp dies down, this competition between the two QBs will now roll over into training camp. Dillon Gabriel and rookie Taylen Green round out the QB room, but the starting role will almost certainly be filled by Sanders or Watson.
Despite a few interception hiccups in practice earlier this offseason, Monken has largely been pleased with how both QBs have looked so far.
“It’s been fun to watch those guys compete,” Monken said. “The whole room, they’re really smart guys, highly competitive. And they’ve come a long way. I’m excited about the room.”
