Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver D.K. Metcalf will not face criminal charges regarding his incident with a Detroit Lions fan last season, according to the Wayne County Prosecutors Office.

“At approximately 5:30 p.m., it is alleged that [Kennedy] left his seat holding a Metcalf jersey to get an autograph. As he approached the front railing of the stands, he said something to Mr. Metcalf. As Mr. Metcalf approached the stands, there was a brief interaction where Mr. Metcalf grabbed his shirt and pushed him back. The fan did not appear to be injured, nor did he seek medical attention at the game,” the statement to the Detroit Free Press said.

“After an extensive review of all the relevant evidence, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office has determined that charges will not issue in this case.”

The altercation occurred during the Steelers’ win over the Lions on Dec.21. The fan, later identified as 45-year-old Ryan Kennedy, approached Metcalf near the front row of the stands. As Metcalf approached, he appeared to grab Kennedy’s shirt before pushing him away.

Metcalf was then suspended for two games after the incident, ultimately voiding over $45 million in guarantees. He can still earn that money through contract incentives, but it isn’t guaranteed.

He still faces a lawsuit from Kennedy that also includes former NFL stars Chad Johnson and Shannon Sharpe. They are accused of “making defamatory and life-altering statements” about Kennedy after the incident occurred.
