Arizona Diamondbacks

Max Muncy and Ildemaro Vargas leave game early following collision

During a game on Thursday night, Los Angeles Dodgers’ third baseman Max Muncy and Arizona Diamondbacks’ first baseman Idemaro Vargas collided hard during a play at first.

The play occurred during the top of the fifth and saw Muncy hit a ball down the first base line. Vargas, backing up to field the ball, then charged towards first to try and beat Muncy to the bag.

With both players running full speed, neither managed to avoid the other. In the video shared on X by Talkin’ Baseball, the collision seems reminiscent of a tackle you would see during a football game, rather than a routine baseball play.

Both Muncy and Vargas left the game after the collision. The Dodgers would release an update on Muncy via x.

As for Vargas, no official word from the Diamondbacks has come out. But it appears at this moment that Muncy and Vargas are both relatively ok. Hopefully for both players the incident was nothing more than a scary accident.
