When the Dallas Mavericks clinched a Finals berth in 2024, star Luka Doncic famously grabbed a beer and looked to celebrate. This idea was halted when Michael Finley snatched it out of his hands.

Finley is the assistant general manager and vice president of player personnel. He felt that Doncic drinking a beer in that moment was a bad look. This, Mark Cuban agrees with.

“I was standing right there. I was fine with it, right?” Cuban said. “It wasn’t because he didn’t want him to drink it. It was because there were cameras everywhere, you know? And it’s not cool when a player is doing an interview with a beer, you know?

“So Michael wasn’t, like, worried about, oh, you’re going to gain weight or any of that sh*t. Like, if he didn’t do it, I would have done it, you know? It was more about cameras going to be rolling. You’re going to need to be talking. Nobody needs to know that you’re drinking a beer.”

Was this the beginning of the end for Doncic and the Mavericks? Or just a bad decision by Doncic?
