Maple Leafs part ways with GM Brad Treliving after three seasons

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Monday night that they have parted ways with GM Brad Treliving after just three seasons. Treliving was hired back in May of 2023 after previously serving as the Calgary Flames GM for nine seasons.

Treliving and the Maple Leafs have not lived up to the expectations this season. The team is currently seventh in the Atlantic and a long shot to make the playoffs. It would be the first time since 2015-16 that the team has failed to qualify for the postseason.

Treliving made some notable changes while working for the Maple Leafs. His most notable move was the sign and trade of Mitch Marner to the Las Vegas Golden Knights this past offseason. Marner had previously spent nine seasons with the Maple Leafs.

With Treliving gone, it will be an offseason of uncertainty for the Maple Leafs. They traded their top-five protected pick for Boston Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo back in 2025. If the pick falls outside of the top five during the draft lottery, the pick will belong to the Bruins. This may pave the way for a complete rebuild in Toronto.
