The Toronto Maple Leafs have hired Jim Hiller as the 41st head coach in franchise history. Hiller was an assistant coach for the Maple Leafs from 2015 to 2019.

Hiller coached the Kings for three seasons, leading them to a 93-58-24 record. Last season, he was fired by the Kings on March 1, with the team at 24-21-14.

He replaces Craig Berube as head coach, marking the first major management decision by newly hired general manager John Chayka. Toronto fired Berube on May 13 after two seasons as head coach, following the team’s worst season in a decade.

Toronto will pick first overall in the upcoming NHL draft, where they are expected to select Canadian phenom Gavin McKenna.
