Malhotra led the Abbotsford Canucks to their first Calder Cup last year.
Vancouver is coming off one of its worst seasons in franchise history, with a record of 25-49-8 and finishing dead last in the league. The season unraveled following the trade of franchise defenseman Quinn Hughes, but the return of young players was worthwhile for a rebuilding Canucks team.
Vancouver hired Ryan Johnson as its new general manager on May 14, after firing Patrik Allvin in April. Allvin had been the GM of the Canucks for four years and led the team to a record of 151-159-46.
The Canucks will pick third in the draft on June 26, with Caleb Malhotra, Manny Malhotra’s son, projected to be selected in the top five.
