Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic will miss at least the remainder of the regular season with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain, the team announced on Friday.
He missed a few games earlier this season with a hamstring strain on the same leg. He has now been ruled out indefinitely and his status to open the playoffs is currently up in the air. There is no timetable for his return.
Doncic sustained the injury in the third quarter of Thursday’s blowout loss to the OKC Thunder. He was driving to the basket and grabbed at his hamstring after planting his left foot.
He leads the NBA in scoring with 33.5 points per game while also putting up 7.7 rebounds and 8.3 assists. This stellar play has helped put the Lakers at third place in the Western Conference with a 50-27 record.
Unless Doncic files a grievance request for the two games he missed in December for the birth of his child, he will now be ineligible for individual season awards.
