After weeks of rumors, drama and controversy, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin has decided to join LSU on a seven-year deal worth $91 million.

Ole Miss took down Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl on Friday, but Kiffin was on a plane to Baton Rouge by Sunday.

According to a statement released by Kiffin, he wanted to coach Ole Miss through the CFP, but his request was denied by athletic director Keith Carter.

“I was hoping to complete a historic six season run with this year’s team by leading Ole Miss through the playoffs,” Kiffin’s statement read. “My request to do was denied by Keith Carter despite the team also asking him to allow me to keep coaching them so they could better maintain their high level of performance.”

According to USA Today, Kiffin is now the second-highest paid head coach in terms of annual salary, only trailing Georgia’s Kirby Smart.

He led the Rebels to 11 wins this season and all but guaranteed them a spot in the CFP. He will now touch down in Baton Rouge with a pay raise and a national championship on his mind.
