Projected 2027 No. 1 pick Landon DuPont commits to the University of Michigan

Defenseman Landon DuPont has committed to the University of Michigan for the 2026-27 season. DuPont is the projected No. 1 pick in the 2027 draft, and follows the development path of the projected 2026 No. 1 pick Gavin McKenna.

He became the second player, and first defenseman, to be granted exceptional status in the Western Hockey League, allowing him to play full-time at the age of 15. DuPont recorded 73 points in 63 regular-season games and 23 points in 18 playoff games en route to the Everett Silvertips’ first WHL championship.

DuPont follows the trend of top-end Canadian prospects opting to play at the college level. CHL players have been allowed to join NCAA teams since Aug. 1, 2025. Before that, the NCAA considered the CHL to be a professional league.
