L.A. Lakers reportedly looking for backup center

Anthony Davis celebrating after making a three.

The L.A. Lakers are having success early this season behind the stellar play of their starting center Anthony Davis. Despite the strong start, one of the glaring weaknesses in L.A. is their lack of frontcourt depth.

With bigs like Christian Wood and Jaxson Hayes sidelined due to injuries, the center position is being carried almost exclusively by Davis. ESPN’s Sham Charania recently appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” and discussed the Lakers’ current status in the trade market.

“They have said for a while and I’ve reported this already, they are looking actively for a big man to add to that lineup so who could that be. But they have assets to play with, they have contracts to play with,” Charania said.

Several high-calliber bigs such as Nikola Vucevic and Brook Lopez have been brought up in these discussions before, so the Lakers may look to move a few players in return for a solid backup.

Lakers GM Rob Pelinka is reportedly being met with “closed doors” when reaching out to teams for a trade, which certainly isn’t good news for Los Angeles. They are currently 9-4 on the season, so it may not be time to panic. But Davis’ lingering injury woes should certainly motivate the team’s front office to get a deal done.
