NHL

Kraken select Reid seventh overall

Published

Dec 31, 2025; St. Paul, Minnesota, USA; USA defensemen Chase Reid (25) celebrates his power play goal against Sweden with forward James Hagens (10) during the second period in group play during the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship at Grand Casino Arena, Nick Wosika-IMAGN IMAGES

The Seattle Kraken have selected defenseman Chase Reid seventh overall.

Reid recorded 48 points in 45 games for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds last season en route to winning the CHL Top Draft Prospect award.

He combines elite skating ability with a high hockey IQ, giving him the highest ceiling of any defenseman in the class. Reid’s transition ability reflects the trend in modern defensemen, making his game easily translatable to the next level.

The defensive work and puck management in the offensive zone could both use some work, but he has plenty of time to iron those out before jumping to the NHL.

Reid is committed to Michigan State University for the 2026-27 season.
