The New York Knicks are rumored to be under investigation by the NBA into the promotion of lead assistant coach Rick Brunson, the father of Knicks star Jalen Brunson.
“In response to the rumored NBA investigation into Rick Brunson’s promotion, Brunson took Johnnie Bryant’s place and assumed the same salary as Bryant,” MSG Sports stated Monday. “It’s offensive that anyone would claim Rick didn’t deserve the promotion, Rick has done a tremendous job and will continue to do so. We see this as more harassment of the Knicks due to our opposition to certain NBA matters.”

They were already stripped of a future draft pick due to tampering while signing Jalen Brunson, so that offseason has been under the league’s microscope for a while now.
Brunson was promoted this season after his son Jalen signed a team-friendly contract extension. The league is investigating the possibility that the money that Jalen bypassed was given to his father as part of a pay raise, which would make them guilty of cap circumvention.
Brunson has been an assistant on several teams in the past, so he’s more than qualified for the job. With Knicks owner James Dolan and NBA commissioner Adam Silver reportedly butting heads on several issues, there’s no telling what will be the outcome for this Knicks team.
