Jonathan Kuminga declines offer from Golden State Warriors

Does Golden State keep an important piece from its 2021-22 NBA Championship team?

The Warriors and Jonathan Kuminga have not agreed on a contract.

ESPN’s Shams Charania and Anthony Slater reported a story on Wednesday about the latest with Golden State and its 22-year-old forward. Golden State presented Kuminga, who is a restricted free agent, a two-year contract worth $45 million, yet he declined it. The Warriors want a team option for Kuminga, but he wanted a built-in no-trade clause. According to ESPN, Kuminga’s agent — Aaron Turner — brought the Warriors a few projections of a team-friendly deal for Kuminga.

One included a three-year, $82 million that would have kept the Warriors under the second apron taxpayer midlevel exception.

Kuminga and Turner have been in long-term conversations with the Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns about a deal.

Nothing concrete has come from those talking, but proposals have been up to four years worth $90 million.

He is not in any rush to move forward with Golden State, but it will be interesting to see where Kuminga ends up.

He averaged 15.3 points per game last season.
