Jeff Teague on GOAT debate: “Everybody wanted to be like Mike”

Jeff Teague
Pike High School head coach Jeff Teague reacts to action on the court during the second half of an IHSAA basketball game, Friday, Dec. 15, 2023, at Pike High School. Officials ended the game with 4:51 left on the clock after an altercation on the court. Lawrence Central High School won, 69-55.

It seems like everyone has an opinion on the NBA GOAT debate. It usually comes down to two players: Michael Jordan and LeBron James.

These two guys have a legit case of being called the GOAT. Jordan won six titles, six Finals MVPs, five MVPs, and 10 scoring titles. This alone is enough to earn the GOAT title.

As for LeBron, he won four championships, four Finals MVPs, four MVPs, a scoring title, an assists title, and he’s the all-time leading scorer. Both players truly are worthy of being named as the greatest of all time.

Still, this debate rages on, with everyone from all walks of life giving their opinions on the subject. Recently, a former player gave his two cents on the topic.

Jeff Teague, who played 12 years in the NBA, recently appeared on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast and gave his opinion on the GOAT debate.

“I’mma go, Mike… Just cause he dominated his era, and then he made the game where everybody wanted to be like Mike. I ain’t ever really heard nobody say they wanted to be like LeBron.”

Teague isn’t wrong. LeBron is an extremely popular athlete but his level of popularity falls short from Jordan’s. Remember, LeBron wears the number 23 because of Jordan. That is the type of impact MJ had on people.

Overall, Jordan’s play, along with all of his endorsements, truly made everyone want to be like Mike.
