Former Wisconsin Badgers tight end Jack Pugh has died at the age of 24, the team announced on Tuesday night.
“The Wisconsin athletics family is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Jack Pugh,” the school said. “Jack was a positive light and brought a genuine spirit to our football program. More than that, he cared about people and was loved by his teammates and staff. Jack proudly earned his degree from UW-Madison in 2025 and will forever be remembered and loved.”
Pugh was a member of the badgers in the 2021 and 2022 seasons. He stepped away from the team in 2023 before announcing his retirement to focus on his mental health.
His cause of death has not been disclosed.
In his retirement announcement two years ago, Pugh said he made the decision to step away after years of prolonged depression and substance abuse.
