Jack Hughes scores OT winner to take down Canada

Jack Hughes scored the OT winner over Canada to clinch a 2-1 victory and their first Olympic gold medal since 1980. This was the third time the two teams met in the gold medal match.

The USA got on the board early with Matt Boldy scoring six minutes into the first period. However, Canada kept the pressure on, and Cale Makar was able to get one back for Canada with just a few minutes left in the second period. Then, in overtime, Jack Hughes was able to score a five-hole game-winning goal to give the U.S. the win.

Connor Hellebuyck was a complete wall in net for the U.S. He stopped 41 of 42 shots faced and even stopped two breakaway attempts.

The win was revenge for the USA, who lost to Canada last year in the Four Nations tournament 3-2.
