Las Vegas Golden Knights’ forward Mitch Marner scored the overtime winner for Canada in the quarterfinals against the Czech Republic. It was his first goal of the Olympics.
Marner previously spent nine years with the Toronto Maple Leafs, his hometown team. However, this past offseason, Marner did a sign-and-trade to the Golden Knights in exchange for center Nicolas Roy.
Marner has fit right in with his new team. He is currently third on the team in points, with 58, and the Golden Knights are first in the Pacific Division.
With Canada’s win, they will now play the lowest remaining seed in the semifinals. Possible teams they could face are fourth-seeded Finland, fifth-seeded Sweden, or seventh-seeded Switzerland. The only time that Canada could face USA is in the gold medal game.
