Houston is putting together a roster under Ime Udoka that should contend for a Western Conference Championship.

The Rockets have made Udoka one of the highest-paid head coaches in the National Basketball Association, while extending center Steven Adams to a three-year, $39 million deal. Houston also made a huge splash in acquiring the best bucket getter of this generation in Kevin Durant via trade. The 15-time All-Star, two-time NBA Champion, and two-time NBA Finals Most Valuable Player is in the best situation to be successful. Durant, 36, is now surrounded by players that can help him win.

Houston’s latest move is holding onto point guard, Fred VanVleet.

Rockets, Ime Udoka agree to long-term contract extension

ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that Rockets and VanVleet have agreed to a two-year, $50 million deal for him to stay.

Rich Paul of Klutch Sports got the deal done for VanVleet as the Rockets have canceled the $44.9 million team option it had in place for VanVleet. The 2022 NBA All-Star and 2019 NBA Champion (Toronto Raptors) assisted Houston to the Western Conference playoffs this season with 52 wins. He helped the team push Golden State to seven games in the first-round, despite the Rockets falling in the series. VanVleet averaged 14.1 points per game in his second season in Houston.

He will enter his ninth season playing on a new extension.
