Fans react to Ed Orgeron’s return to the LSU Tigers

The LSU Tigers football team has been one of the most talked about squads of this offseason so far. That remained true on Wednesday as news broke that Lane Kiffin is bringing back former Tigers coach Ed Orgeron to be a special assistant for both defense and recruiting.

Orgeron first joined LSU and coached the Tigers until 2021, completing a perfect 15-0 season and capturing a national championship in 2019.

As one of the most polarizing figures in all of college football, fans on social media erupted when the news broke.

Kiffin and Orgeron have been close friends since first working together at USC in 2001. Kiffin released a statement on Wednesday as part of the official announcement.

“I’m excited to bring Coach Orgeron back to LSU,” he said. “He brings us tremendous value with his ability to recruit elite players nationally, but especially the impact he can have for us recruiting the great state of Louisiana. Coach O understands my expectations and commitment to being a championship program. I look forward to seeing him with recruits and his intensity working with our defensive players.”

With Orgeron back in town, Baton Rouge is likely to remain one of the most relevant places in college sports next season.
