In 2001, the two most popular players in the NBA faced off in the Finals. Kobe Bryant and Allen Iverson squared off on the NBA’s biggest stage, with Kobe’s Los Angeles Lakers emerging victorious over Iverson’s Philadelphia 76ers.

Despite being fierce competitors, Kobe and Iverson were friendly with each other off the court. After Kobe passed away, A.I. penned an emotional letter to Kobe, titled “Dear Kobe.”

This letter, which was made into a video and narrated by Iverson himself, caused fans to react on social media.

Fans were emotional over Iverson’s letter and how could they not? Iverson wrote something that showed how close he was to Kobe. It was like they were family.

As we remember Kobe today on his birthday, let’s not forget that beyond being a basketball legend, he was also a father, husband, and a friend.
