Jalen Hurts

Anonymous Eagles sources call out QB Jalen Hurts

ESPN released a lengthy report on Wednesday morning that gives the world a closer look a the frustration brewing within the Philadelphia Eagles, particularly with quarterback Jalen Hurts.

A team source spoke to ESPN anonymously, who questioned Hurts’ leadership ability.

“Poor body language, not always bought in, not the most coachable and the players notice,” the source said.

A team source also told ESPN that Hurts had a hand in the crucial play-call in the final minute of the Eagles’ Wild Card loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Hurts was reportedly the one who suggested that the team run the “four verts” play, which the 49ers saw coming. San Francisco forced a failed pass attempt and sent the Eagles home.

This play is a good example of how the Eagles’ offense has become stale and predictable over the last few seasons. Something that team sources say Hurts is at least partially responsible for.

With an offense that many believe relies too heavily on Saquon Barkley’s run game, some within the team want Hurts to be more creative and expand his offense.

To compound the issues, the relationship between Hurts and wide receiver AJ Brown has reportedly been deteriorating.

As Brown has grown frustrated with his role on the offense and the lack of team success, multiple sources say the communication between him and Hurts has diminished.

“Clearing the air probably doesn’t happen as often as it should,” one source said.

Both players have downplayed the fall out, but sources say that the two were once best friends.

ESPN’s bombshell report comes just a day after Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie praised Hurts at the NFL annual league meeting.

“Exceptional and so dedicated. I mean, I think you probably know, I spend a lot of time with Jalen, as I do with most quarterbacks. Incredibly dedicated to the game, to winning and being a huge winner. I love everything about him.”

Hurts is currently under contract through the 2028 season.

After last year’s campaign provided more questions than answers, all eyes are on Hurts next season as the Eagles look to get back to the Super Bowl.
