Los Angeles Dodgers closer Edwin Diaz is now set to have surgery on his right elbow on Wednesday to remove loose bodies in the joint, the team announced on Monday.
The 32-year-old will reportedly miss up to three months after the velocity on his fastball decreased over the course of this season. He will now undergo surgery to clean up his elbow. Los Angeles will now call up left-hander Jake Eder.
Diaz joined the Dodgers this offseason on a three-year, $69 million deal after six seasons with the New York Mets. His last two appearances for L.A. were cause for concern as his ERA this season has now reached 10.50.
He will now be out for the next several months as he recovers from the procedure.
