BREAKING: Two-time AL Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal to undergo surgery

Brett Davis -- IMAGN IMAGES

Reigning two-time AL Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal will undergo elbow surgery. It is unknown how much time he will miss.

Skubal was set to face off against the Boston Red Sox on Monday afternoon against Payton Tolle. With Skubal now out, Tyler Horton will start.

Skubal initially injured his elbow against the Atlanta Braves on April 29. A meeting at the mound was called after Skubal felt discomfort in his elbow, but he remained in the game. He pitched seven innings, for 91 pitches, and seven strikeouts.

It’s been another dominant start to the season for Skubal. In seven starts, he has a 3-2 record with a 2.70 ERA, 43.1 innings pitched, and 45 strikeouts. He is in the final year of his rookie contract and is a free agent this upcoming offseason.
