The Carolina Hurricanes have clinched home ice advantage in the Eastern Conference following their 3-2 shootout loss to the Philadelphia Flyers. As for the Flyers, with their win, they also clinch the final playoff spot in the East.

It is the eighth year in a row that the Hurricanes will be in the postseason. They will play their first game on Saturday, April 18, against either the Boston Bruins or the Ottawa Senators.

The Hurricanes will hope to finally bring home the Stanley Cup this year. They have only made the Eastern Conference Finals twice in their last seven years and have been swept both times. The only time the franchise has won the Stanley Cup was during 2005-06, when they defeated the Edmonton Oilers in seven games.
