Morocco would draw first blood in the 21st minute.
Brahim Díaz started a quick break for the Moroccans with a through ball to forward Ismael Saibari.
Saibari, beating two Brazilian defenders, chipped the ball over goalkeeper Yassine Bounou who came well off his line.
Brazil, looking to keep their streak of remaining unbeaten in World Cup openers, a stat that dates back to 1938, was looking for an equalizer.
Luckily for them, they didn’t have to wait long.
In the 32nd minute, the Brazilian man himself Vinícius Júnior struck home a beauty from a narrow angle to bring the game to one all.
The second half saw both teams fail to take the lead, seeing Morocco manage just two shots the entirety of the second 45.
Throughout the entire game, both sides sat relatively even in terms of statistics. With Brazil holding the majority of the possession at 51%.
But Morocco would outshoot the Brazilians 14 to 12, with Brazil having better accuracy, with five shots on target as opposed to Morocco’s three.
Brazil and Morocco are the two expected favorites to escape Group C; it may just be a matter of positioning.
Brazil will match up next against Haiti at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Morocco will also play Friday, their game is against Scotland at 6 p.m.
