No. 20 Boise State Broncos defeated Texas State Bobcats 46–45 on Saturday night at Albertsons Stadium in Boise, Idaho, rallying from a 25-point halftime deficit after starting quarterback Maddux Madsen exited with a left knee injury in the fourth quarter.

Backup Max Cutforth entered the game and threw three touchdown passes in the final seven minutes. He completed 8 of 13 passes for 131 yards.

Texas State scored 36 unanswered points in the second half and led 39–28 with 8 minutes, 58 seconds remaining after Jayden Bradley returned an interception for a touchdown — Madsen’s first of the season.

Boise State coach Spencer Danielson called the third quarter “one of the worst quarters of football that I’ve ever been a part of.”

With Texas State ahead 39–34, Boise State linebacker Mana Tuioti intercepted a pass on a trick play and returned it to the Bobcats’ 11-yard line.

The teams exchanged leads three times in the final five minutes. Cutforth connected with wide receiver Akeem Wright on an 18-yard touchdown pass with 2:40 left to give Boise State its final lead.

Madsen finished with 236 passing yards, one passing touchdown, and two rushing touchdowns before exiting. He watched the remainder of the game on crutches. Danielson said Madsen’s status was unknown as he underwent further evaluation.

Boise State improved to 7–1 overall and 4–0 in Pac-12 play. Texas State fell to 4–4 overall and 2–2 in conference play.

Since moving to the Football Bowl Subdivision in 2012, Texas State has lost all 13 games against ranked opponents.
