Los Angeles Kings forward Adrian Kempe scored three goals and added an assist in a 7–2 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday night.

Kempe opened the scoring at 1:23 of the first period and added his second goal later in the frame. He scored his third goal on a power play with 4:09 left in the second period. Quinton Byfield recorded two goals. Erik Haula and Joel Armia each scored once. Artemi Panarin had four assists. Darcy Kuemper made 30 saves.

The Kings converted 3 of 5 power-play opportunities. Kempe’s performance was his 37th multigoal game with Los Angeles, moving him past Dustin Brown for sole possession of ninth place in franchise history.

Kempe returned to the lineup after missing Saturday’s 3–2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres due to an undisclosed injury. San Jose’s Macklin Celebrini and Ivar Stenberg each scored on the power play, both assisted by Erik Gustafsson. Yaroslav Askarov stopped 20 shots. The Sharks lost their third consecutive game.

San Jose defenseman Eric Pohlkamp made his NHL debut after being recalled from the AHL before the game.

The Sharks play at the Minnesota Wild on Friday night. The Kings host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday night.

According to The Associated Press, the final score was Kings 7, Sharks 2.
