Warriors Halt Payments to Porzingis Amid Unexcused Absence

Golden State Warriors have stopped semi-monthly salary payments to center Kristaps Porzingis, citing his failure to render services after stepping away before training camp.

The Golden State Warriors have halted semi-monthly payments to center Kristaps Porzingis on his $20 million salary, league sources told ESPN, because he is not rendering services.

Porzingis, 31, stepped away from the team before training camp began and has not returned to the facility since an early-October meeting with general manager Mike Dunleavy and lead medical decision maker Rick Celebrini. The team initially listed him as out with "general illness" but changed his official status to "not with team" — a designation indicating the absence is unexcused.

The Warriors signed Porzingis to a two-year, $40 million contract extension this summer. Only $3 million of the second season’s salary is guaranteed.

Golden State retains full trade flexibility with Porzingis’ contract through the Feb. 11 deadline and has no plans to void it. Front office executives continue exploring trade options, including deals that could move longer-term salary or yield draft assets.

Porzingis has not disputed the lack of payments, sources said.
