Utah is No. 3 in the College Football Playoff selection committee’s first ranking of the season, behind Miami and Georgia. The 8-0 Utes are one of three unbeaten teams in the top 12, along with No. 1 Miami and No. 8 UCLA.
In a bracket built from Tuesday’s ranking, Utah would be the third seed, skip the first round and face the winner of Notre Dame at Kentucky in a quarterfinal. The Utes are also No. 3 in this week’s AP poll.

Utah has outscored its opponents 311-127. Its closest games were a 27-24 win at Colorado on Oct. 17 and a 21-13 win over Houston on Oct. 24; Houston is No. 17 in the committee’s ranking. The Utes also beat Arkansas 43-10 and won 31-17 at Iowa State and 49-25 at Cincinnati.
No. 9 BYU visits Rice-Eccles Stadium on Saturday at noon ET, on ABC. The 7-1 Cougars beat Notre Dame 28-24 on Oct. 17 and lost 39-31 at UCF a week later.
After BYU, Utah plays at No. 22 Arizona on Nov. 14 and at TCU on Nov. 21, then closes the regular season at home against West Virginia on Friday, Nov. 27.
