The Montreal Canadiens evened the series with the Buffalo Sabres thanks to a strong Game 2 performance from Alex Newhook. Newhook had two goals in the Canadiens 5-1 win.

Newhook opened the scoring not even two minutes into the game to give the Canadiens the lead. From that moment on, the Canadiens never trailed or tied with the Sabres. Mike Matheson scored his first goal of the playoffs to make it 2-0 for the Canadiens five minutes into the game.

Newhook scored his second of the game in the second period, making it 3-0. Zach Benson got one back for Buffalo with seconds left in the period, but it was not nearly enough. Alexandre Carrier scored to make it 4-1 before a Nick Suzuki empty-netter sealed a 5-1 victory.

Jakub Dobes stood tall in the net for Montreal. He stopped 26 of 27 shots faced, including saving all 10 shots while Buffalo was on the power-play. As for Buffalo goalie Alex Lyon, it was his worse performance so far this postseason. He stopped 23 of 27 shots faced for a .852 save percentage, his lowest so far this postseason. His four goals allowed is also the most he’s allowed in a game since March 27.

Game 3 will be in Montreal on Sunday, May 10 at 7 p.m. ET.
