A Virginia judge denied quarterback Chandler Morris‘ request for an injuction to play a seventh season of college football on Thursday.

The 25-year-old led the Virginia Cavaliers to 11 wins last season and an appearance in the ACC title game. He sued the NCAA in February for another year of eligibility, claiming he wasn’t given a waiver for the 2022 season.

That year, Morris suffered a knee injury in the season opener while playing for TCU. He went on to appear as a backup in three more games that year, including the College Football Playoff title game.

The NCAA swiftly released a statement following Thursday’s ruling.

“The NCAA is pleased by the court’s decision today, which protects the integrity of collegiate competition,” the NCAA said in a statement. “As additional lawsuits challenging common-sense, academically-tied eligibility rules are filed, the NCAA will continue to defend against attempts to rob high school students across the nation of the opportunity to compete in college and experience the life-changing opportunities only college sports can create.”

Thursday’s ruling is a major victory for the NCAA as it battles dozens of lawsuits from players seeking more eligibility.
