Patrick Kane broke the U.S.-born scoring record on Thursday with an assist in the Red Wings’ 4-3 shootout loss to the Capitals. Kane currently has 1,375 points, with 32 so far this season.

With Kane being the new record holder, it adds another achievement to his hall of fame career. He has played for three teams across 19 seasons, winning the Stanley Cup three times as well as the Hart Trophy in 2015-16. Kane also finished the 2015-16 season as the league leader in points with 106.

The 37-year old has put up some solid numbers in his 19th season. He has eight goals and 24 assists, including an assist in each of the last three games. The Red Wings are also currently second in the Atlantic Division and third in the Eastern Conference. The Red Wings are trying to make it back to the playoffs for the first time since 2015-16.
