Connors State College sophomore basketball player Ethan Dietz has died at the age of 20 after reportedly suffering a head injury during a game on Saturday, the team announced on Tuesday.

“Ethan exemplified what it means to be a Cowboy, to value hard work and being part of a team,” a statement from the school read. “While the team and the Cowboy community are processing our own grief, our hearts go out to his family and friends.”

While very few details have been confirmed, reports have suggested that Dietz took an elbow to the head during the second half of the matchup.

Several of the team’s games have been cancelled following the announcement and an on-campus vigil in Deitz’s honor has been scheduled for Monday.
