Dwight Howard to play final pro season with Ice Cube’s BIG3

NBA veteran Dwight Howard was recently elected into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, but his professional playing career isn’t over just yet.

Howard will play his final pro season this summer with the L.A. Riot of the BIG3, Ice Cube’s 3-v-3 basketball league. He will be coached by a familiar face, former L.A. Lakers guard Nick Young. For the first time since it’s creation eight years ago, the BIG3 will be operating on a city-based model, with teams based in major cities around the country.

“On behalf of the entire league, I want to be the first one to welcome Dwight Howard to the BIG3,” Ice Cube said. “His legacy speaks for itself, and he still has fun playing the game.”

Howard expressed his desires to finish his career on a high note while also growing the BIG3 to a global league.

“I’m excited to join Ice Cube and the BIG3 – especially right after being inducted into the basketball Hall of Fame,” Howard said. “Words can’t describe how grateful I am for these opportunities. I can’t wait to join the LA Riot and try to bring another championship to the city of LA. But, the ultimate goal I have is to help the league go global.”

Howard spent 18 seasons in the NBA, most notably with the Orlando Magic, where he was a dominant force in the paint and led the league in rebounds on five separate occasions.
